Climate Adaptation
In short: climate adaptation is how we adjust to expected climate risks and impacts, in order to minimise damage to people and nature.
Climate adaptation focuses on how we adjust to the current or predicted climate conditions. By anticipating and adapting to climate risks and impacts, it is possible to prevent or minimise damage caused by the climate crisis, or take advantage of opportunities that arise from a changing climate.
Adaptation measures need to happen on a local or regional level to help communities, ecosystems and economies cope with extreme weather and climate hazards. This could include implementing regenerative agriculture practices, managing land to reduce wildfire risks or improving water storage. However, at the same time, adaptation strategies must be driven at the national and international level with large-scale measures to ensure that adaptation keeps pace with the rate at which the planet is being impacted by climate change.
